The Housing and Homelessness Council (Ministerial Council) met at Australian Parliament House in Canberra and online on 25 March 2024 for an out of session meeting to progress negotiations on a new outcomes-focused funding agreement for housing and homelessness.
At the meeting, Ministers reinforced the importance of improving Australians’ access to homelessness services and social and affordable housing, including how to measure progress. The Ministerial Council acknowledged the importance of self-determination for First Nations people in the housing portfolio.
Ministers further acknowledged the importance of improved data sharing and understanding of housing and homelessness outcomes across all states and territories and agreed in-principle to a framework to achieve this.
The Ministerial Council will next meet in May 2024.
