The Albanese Labor Government is continuing its commitment to the volunteering sector with close to $10 million in grant funding to support volunteers to do vital work in their communities.
We believe a strong volunteering sector is a reflection of our combined efforts to foster community connections, promote change, and enrich our society.
Close to 4000 local community organisations nationally are the recipients of the 2023-24 Volunteer Grants round.
The one-off grants of up to $5000 can be used to buy small equipment for volunteers or for the reimbursement of items such volunteer fuel, transport, or training costs.
Minister for Social Services Amanda Rishworth highlighted the critical role volunteers play in providing care to vulnerable members of the community, and the importance of supporting and encouraging these services.
“Volunteers play a unique role throughout our community, and make significant contribution towards an inclusive society,” Minister Rishworth said.
“These grants help to reinforce the volunteering sector, and in turn help many vulnerable Australians across the nation to access the support they need.
“A strong volunteering sector is a reflection of our combined efforts to strengthen community connections, promote change, and enrich our society.”
The Volunteer Grants Program is an important part of the Government’s commitment to assist volunteers and encourage volunteering, and follows the goals laid out in the National Strategy for Volunteering, which will work to improve support across the volunteering sector in Australia.
The Strategy is a blueprint for the future of the sector, enabling a shared vision and highlights desired outcomes for volunteering in Australia over the next ten years.
“All these measures, from the National Strategy to the Volunteer Grants Program, work toward our goal of maintaining a strong, sustainable, and accessible volunteering sector,” Minister Rishworth said.
