New experts to help improve government services

Two new industry experts have joined the Independent Advisory Board to offer additional guidance to the Minister for Government Services on ways to deliver citizen-centred government services.

Mr Malcom Crompton AM and Dr Scott Winch will join Chair the Hon. Victor Dominello, who will continue to lead the Advisory Board.

They will be joined by Deputy Chair Caroline Edwards and continuing members Professor Angie Abdilla, Professor Edward Santow, Professor Johanna Weaver, Dr Simon Longstaff AO, Leanne Ho, Karen Batt and Amit Singh.

Mr Crompton was Australia’s Privacy Commissioner from 1999 to 2004. He works with organisations around the world to build trust through innovative privacy solutions. He was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2016 for significant service to public administration, including data protection and identity management.

Dr Winch is a Wiradjuri man and leads Aboriginal health at the Sax Institute. He has nearly 30 years’ experience in Indigenous affairs at local, state, national and international levels and is also a member of the First Nations Digital Inclusion Expert Panel.

The first Advisory Board meeting will occur on 19 February 2025. The Board was a recommendation of the myGov user audit.

Over the past year, the previous Interim Advisory Board made welcome contributions toward improvements in government service delivery.

Members offered their insights on various customer experience enhancements, engaged in collaborative discussions with peak bodies, advocacy groups and Australian Public Service stakeholders.

They also discussed the critical role Services Australia has when responding to emergencies and providing service delivery surge assistance across government agencies.

Following the Government’s investment in the 2024-25 Budget, the Advisory Board will continue to offer expert and independent advice to the Minister for Government Services until 2028.
