In its continued commitment to support the not-for-profit sector, the Albanese Labor Government is pleased to announce the release of an Issues Paper to start a conversation about the Not-for-Profit Sector Development Blueprint.
First announced in October 2022, the Blueprint will provide a roadmap for Government reform and sector-led initiatives to boost the sector’s capacity to support and connect Australian communities.
Minister for Social Services Amanda Rishworth said the release of the Issues Paper by the Blueprint Expert Advisory Group is central to hearing from everyone on how to strengthen the not‑for‑profit sector for consideration in developing the Blueprint.
“Australia’s not-for-profit sector contributes deeply to the social, civic, economic, cultural and environmental dimensions of life in Australia,” Minister Rishworth said.
“We thank the Blueprint Expert Advisory Group members and advisors representing the sector who are leading the development of the Blueprint.”
“I encourage people to contribute by submitting ideas on how to help ensure all Australian charities can thrive.”
The Issues Paper explores eight focus areas considered as key priorities for action by the not‑for-profit sector and government. These include:
- measurement, outcomes and quality of services
- policy, advocacy, communications and engagement
- philanthropy and volunteering
- governance, organisation and legal environment
- leadership and staff development
- government funding, contracting and tendering
- Information Technology, communication and marketing, and
- leveraging assets and social finance
The Government is contributing $258,000 towards the inclusive consultation process, promoting accessibility for target audiences, and hosting focus groups and roundtables to inform the development of the Blueprint.
Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities and Treasury, Andrew Leigh, said the Blueprint will be an important way for Government to hear from the sector to ensure Australia’s NFP sector is sustainable and thriving.
“Charity and community-based organisations, and their volunteers, are critical to the social fabric of Australian communities. They help to improve the lives of many of those disadvantaged in our communities,” Assistant Minister Leigh said.
“The Not-for-profit Development Blueprint is closely linked with the Government’s commitment to doubling philanthropy by 2030. The Productivity Commission’s inquiry into philanthropy will explore ways for more Australians to be involved in philanthropy and strengthen Australia’s philanthropic culture.”
