New MyGov app simplifies access to Government services

Accessing government services is now easier with the new myGov app.

Minister for Government Services the Hon Bill Shorten MP said the app, available to download now from app stores, is part of ongoing improvements to Australia’s largest authenticated government platform.

“People expect online services to be simple to use, and the new myGov app is another important step forward in the transformation of Australian government digital services,” Minister Shorten said.

“We know many people already use their smart phone to sign in to myGov, and the app gives them a new convenient and secure option to connect with government.

“It’s simpler to sign in with the myGov app—people can use a 6 digit PIN or, if they prefer, the phones’ security feature, such as fingerprint or face recognition. Checking your myGov Inbox is also quick and easy with the app.

“The app includes a digital wallet to store your government-issued cards and documents. Digital verification through a QR code confirms the document displayed is both genuine and valid, and means providers do not need to store your personal information. This is a significant step forwards in tackling fraud and theft of these important documents.

“You can currently add Centrelink concession cards and your International COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate to the myGov wallet. Soon, you’ll be able to add additional items, such as your Medicare card.

“The app also harnesses the in-built accessibility functions of mobile devices, such as displaying larger text or text-to-speech options, to allow Australians to access myGov in the way they want or need.”

myGov will continue to evolve, with updates and new features to be added over time. Insights from the myGov user audit, currently underway, will also help shape future improvements to myGov.

Minister Shorten said while using online services remains a choice, support is available for those who need a hand to get started.

“All Services Australia service centres now offer digital support for people who want to improve their confidence in using online services or need help to get set up,” Minister Shorten said.

“Customers can make an appointment for a free one-on-one digital coaching session, where a staff member will help them create a myGov account or download the myGov app to their own device and link services.

“People can even make a follow-up appointment for a refresher or if they need help with something else later.”

The myGov app is available in both the App Store and Google Play and provides direct access to your myGov account and linked services. For more information about using the myGov app, how to set it up and for help using the app, go to my.gov.au/app
