The Albanese Labor Government’s commitment to building strong and resilient communities is on full display in Tasmania, with a new $50,000 investment to strengthen support networks and enrich local ties in Hobart communities.
Minister for Social Services Amanda Rishworth announced the funding for local organisation Jordan River Service to continue delivering Gagebrook Community House - which provides a safe and inclusive space for Tasmanians in need.
“The funding will help Gagebrook Community House deliver a new community café project, ensuring that patrons can access affordable food options and engage with community members,” Minister Rishworth said.
“Community support can be a lifeline to those in need, and that can be as simple as reaching out for advice and support over a cup of coffee.
“Our support of this project is a testament to the government’s appreciation of organisations that support our most vulnerable members, and build vibrant, resilient, and connected communities.”
Member for Lyons Brian Mitchell said he is committed to delivering the best possible outcomes for Tasmanian communities.
“Community Houses in my electorate do a remarkable job as a hub for the community to come together,” Mr Mitchell said.
“This funding for the café project in Gagebrook will help bring more people together as a meeting point, helping reduce social isolation in the community.”
The funding for Gagebrook Community House is one of a series of grants under the Strong and Resilient Communities (SARC) Activity, a government measure dedicated towards boosting community cohesion.
The Government will deliver $63 million over five years to support new grant opportunities under the SARC – Inclusive Communities activity.
“The Government is committed to funding more organisations under the SARC Activity to ensure local communities can work to support each other through these times,” Minister Rishworth said.
“By investing in projects that boost individual wellbeing, the government helps to enrich community attitudes and engagement across Australia.”
More information about the SARC program is available on the Department of Social Services website.
