The Albanese Labor Government has appointed 14 leading voices to the newly established Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Advisory Council.
The members will be critical in advising Government on the implementation of our National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032 by drawing on their experience and expertise.
This includes by providing independent advice to the Minister for Social Services and identifying opportunities where we can strengthen our impact and achieve our goal to end gender-based violence.
Importantly, the Council will play an instrumental role in advising on the Second Action Plan, a roadmap for Australia's collective efforts to end violence against women and children over the next five years.
To end violence, we must take a whole-of-community approach, which is why members who hold experience in diverse sectors like community services, justice, systems-design, health, housing, education and more have been appointed to the Council.
The Council also includes the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commissioner, Micaela Cronin, and the eSafety Commissioner, Julie Inman Grant as ex officio members.
ANROWS – Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety – and the recently established national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peak body for ending family, domestic and sexual violence, Our Ways Strong Together, will also be ex-officio members.
The Council will meet for the first time this week.
