The Albanese Labor Government is investing in community-led solutions to target disadvantage with $360,000 in funding for a one-stop hub to empower vulnerable members of the Murwillumbah community.
Nullum House, delivered by Murwillumbah Community Centre, is a social inclusion drop-in centre to support those facing social isolation, homelessness, mental health concerns, or economic disadvantage.
Speaking today from the Murwillumbah Community Centre in New South Wales, Assistant Minister for Social Services and for the Prevention of Family Violence, Justine Elliot, said how vital this support was for the North Coast.
“It’s amazing to be here again with the team at the Murwillumbah Community Centre, seeing the hands-on work they do each and every day to help foster a bright and enriched community,” Assistant Minister Elliot said.
“The Albanese Labor Government is proud to be delivering this funding for Nullum House, which builds on Labor’s investment and support in the vital work of the Centre and the essential local services they provide for people in need.”
Minister for Social Services, Amanda Rishworth said the new Hub would fill a current community service need.
“We are funding this project under the Strong and Resilient Communities – Inclusive Communities program which has seen more than $47.5 million of investment since we came to Government,” Minister Rishworth said.
“Our Government understands the importance of allowing local communities to deliver and develop their own solutions to growing issues and matters of need within their areas.”
“Through Nullum House, local residents will have the opportunity to improve their sense of belonging and community through the social activities and communal meals on offer, as well as train up their skills in things like digital literacy and communication so they are empowered to participate actively in the community.”
Murwillumbah Community Centre is one of eight organisations receiving a supplementary grant under the SARC – IC Activity to address the barriers faced by disadvantaged communities and empower vulnerable people to participate socially and economically.
Since 2022 the Albanese Labor Government has invested more than $47.5 million in SARC – IC grants across Australia.
More information about SARC grants is available on the Department of Social Services website .
