Minister opens NDIS Commission Office in Victoria

Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Stuart Robert, today officially opened the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (NDIS Commission) Victorian office, alongside Federal Member for Chisholm, Ms Gladys Liu.

Minister Robert said the establishment of the NDIS Commission is vital to ensure we protect the right of NDIS participants to receive safe and quality services along with the integrity of the Scheme.

‘The NDIS Commission is the first national regulatory body to oversee the safety and quality of services funded under the NDIS, providing stronger protection for people with disability,’ Mr Robert said.

‘Participants and others are encouraged to speak up and contact the NDIS Commission if they have concerns about the safety and quality of disability-related supports and services.’

‘The Victorian office is one of five newly established offices of the NDIS Commission around Australia, joining the existing offices in New South Wales and South Australia.

‘I am proud that more than 79,000 Victorians have benefited from the NDIS, with around $5.8 billion committed in much needed support to date.

‘The Morrison Government is committed to move the NDIS from being a great service to being an exceptional service for up to 500,000 participants over the next five years and the NDIS Commission has an important role in achieving this.’

The NDIS Commission commenced operations in NSW and SA on 1 July 2018. All other states and territories, except WA, transitioned to the new national quality and safeguarding arrangements on 1 July 2019, with WA commencing operations on 1 July 2020. The NDIS Commission now regulates more than 19,500 registered NDIS providers who are available to participants nationally, including Victorian participants.

The functions of the NDIS Commission were determined following extensive consultation with people with disability, carers, providers and peak bodies.
