NDIS Innovation Grant Applications Open

Grant funding is now available to community providers for innovative projects to support the implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in the Northern Territory.

Funding for the grants has been made available under the Australian Government’s Sector Development Fund, which provides support to the market, sector and workforce to help the transition to the NDIS across Australia.

The Hon Jane Prentice, Assistant Minister for Social Services and Disability, said the Innovation Grant Project will support local providers and help reshape the disability market in the Northern Territory.

“This exciting new venture will fund innovative projects that generate new solutions. We want to identify and test new opportunities that will increase the level of choice and control for people with disability, especially those living in remote areas of the Territory,” Mrs Prentice said.

“With the NDIS well under way, demand for disability services is growing rapidly, making it one of the most important employment sectors in Australia.”

The Northern Territory Minister for Health Natasha Fyles said Territorians deserve to live in safe and inclusive communities with access to high quality disability services and these grants help to provide that.

“These grants support local providers to deliver culturally safe projects that increase local jobs and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ economic participation in the NDIS,” she said.

“Total funding available under the Innovation Grant Program is approximately $2 million. This final round of the program is offering $1 million of funding across all regions of the Northern Territory. Small, medium and large grants are available.”

The creation of the NDIS is one of the biggest social reforms in Australia’s history.

The NDIS is a new way of providing support to Australians who have a permanent and significant disability. It is a life-changing reform that gives people choice and control over the services and support they can access.

“The Sector Development Fund is part of our considerable investment to assist NDIS participants, providers and workforce to transition to the scheme, with more than $109 million committed already covering 83 projects,” Mrs Prentice said.

“This includes more than $10 million in funding to the Northern Territory Government for a range of projects to support participant and provider readiness, including in remote areas.”
